For spectroscopic absorption measurements of gas and liquid phase samples, correct choice of gas cell is paramount. Protea can supply a complete system with optimum sample cell, or we can provide a sample cell for your current instrument. We can provide FTIR gas cells, laser gas cells, FTIR liquid cells and process flow cells.
Choice of material for construction of the cell can range from glass for ambient measurements, to stainless steel and nickel plated aluminium for hot gas measurements. Measurement of acid gases will require correct material choice to give long lifetime of the cell. Multi-pass gas cell mirrors can be provided with base materials of metal or glass, rhodium or platinum sub-layers, followed by reflective coatings of gold with final protective coatings on top of the gold.
Protea can supply the correct window material for your application. Dependent on what species need to be measured, we can determine the optimum wavenumber range needed. Then given the sample state and conditions we can supply the best window material. Window seals are made with Viton or Kalrez o-rings for optimum performance at high temperature and reactive samples.
For gas applications, multi-pass gas cells can be provided with pathlengths from <1m up to 20m or more. Trade-offs between pathlength, cell volume, instrument noise can all be factored in by Protea to give the best measurement solution. Multi-pass cells can be supplied with variable pathlengths for research applications required measurements at different levels. Customers can obtain ppb level to %Vol level measurements with Protea’s range of gas cells.
